Website Back and Godot

The website has been inaccessible for some time. This was due to equal parts laziness, busy with job retraining, blind skills training, and weird esoteric technical problems I still do not really understand, but worked through nonetheless. 502.5 errors. A lot of them. Too many, or perhaps it was the same one that just took a lot of effort to run down like a long game of whack-a-mole. While I was wading through the technical things, I migrated to the current version of .NET Core to stay on the current platform.

So, what was I doing otherwise? Toward the end of my blind skills training (reading braille, using a cane properly, etc.), I decided I needed to choose a game engine and learn how to build games in it. It is easy to spend too much time comparing engines, but I found it easy just based on financial considerations and company culture. Godot is my game engine of choice for its light weight and developer-community culture. So for the last few months, I have been learning the Godot editor and its native language GD Script. I have some rudimentary C/C++ programming knowledge that is 30 years old, so while that is not very relevant today, it at least let me start passed square one. So far, I have made tiny "tech demo" projects taht only run in the editor, but it is progress.

Only downside using Godot for me is the spotty accessibility. The editor is all custom Godot UI elements, not standard operating system UI elements, so my text-to-speech software cannot read much to me. So, at least for writing code, I am also looking at code editors I can use for programming games for Godot. It will not help with the rest of the Godot editor, but at least I can more easily write code and debug it.
